Love At First Sight Is Possible, But It Pays To Take A Second Look…

All You Need Is Love…

February14

Valentine’s Day. Commercial Day. Rather Celebrate Pancakes Day. Lonely Hearts Club. Smug Lovebirds Day. What day is it?

Well we hit another February 14th and the reactions are mixed all around. See, to me, I love the idea of Valentine’s Day. Commercial or not, if we don’t have these days (Like Christmas, Easter, The Queens Birthday (Ok, using this one loosely but it’s a public holiday)) then really, life would be that little bit more boring.

I agree, Christmas seems to be all focus on presents, Easter on chocolates… But Valentine’s Day to me should be used for the little gestures. A love note saying why you love someone (Whether it is a partner or family member, a friend etc.), it is about leaving a little note on the counter saying you love someone, it is cuddling someone for that extra bit longer, or putting thought into something that would really make someone’s day.

I went to the shops today and saw masses of men carrying bunches of red roses. Red roses. Then I saw masses of women carrying massive teddy bears. I saw people who were pointing and rubbishing the idea and I saw people sheepishly try and buy fluffy cuffs and edible undies. (I can not confirm or deny that one of these people was me :-P   )

I wondered if the men had bought the flowers because they forgot and couldn’t think of anything else. I wondered if the women who were buying teddy bears would take them home and realise their significant other had no interest in stuffed toys.

I see so many people sad and depressed each year on February 14th because they feel unloved and rejected. This is not the case, they are loved and wanted and appreciated.

I sound as if I am rubbishing the day. Not at all. I love love love love Valentine’s Day.

I love the idea that millions around the world are expressing their love. What is not to love about love? I love the tale of how the day began (In some weird sadistic romance kind of way). I love the idea of cupid, or people finding love on this day. I love the messages people leave in the newspaper. And now, I love reading Facebook statuses of love messages. It is so wonderful to see people so happy. :-D

I have always loved Valetines Day, even year after year being the sad and pathetic one who never received one. The one who waited for a flower to be left on the doorstep or a note from a secret admirer.

I love Valentine’s Day, Valentine’s Day just didn’t love me.

So today I did something different. Today I left on each of my children’s bed a chocolate rose, some lollies and a card with puppies on them saying ‘Will you be my Valentine?’. Inside, I wrote that Mummy loves them.

The absolute joy on their faces when they came home and found them was priceless. Just beautiful.

Valentine’s Day for me is just a reason to re-iterate to those I love, how much I love and appreciate them. Commercial or not… THAT was worth it :D

To finish off, I want to share some of the best pick ups lines I read today that gave me a chuckle:

Did you fart? Because you just blew me away.

I wish you were DSL so I could get high-speed access.

I know I’m not a grocery item but I can tell when you’re checking me out.

Do you have any raisins? No? How about a date?

POOF! (What are u doing?) I’m here, where are your other two wishes?

I wanna bag you like some groceries.

Leanne, you just made me cry! Love what you’ve done to your kids, and I do hope, after all these years waiting, that Valentine’s Day this year finally loves you back ;)
