Opposites Attract…
Today’s Topic Brought To You By The Letters K, E, L, L, Y. He suggested I write about this, and I can understand why. It’ll make sense…
So, the latest thing in our adventures. I used to think we were polar opposites, but now i’m not so sure. I actually think we are more alike that I ever realised.
Kelly is a bit of a geek (He’ll tell you this). He likes computers, technology, and sci-fi. He is also a male so he loves sport, ummm sport, sport, ummm sport and ummm beer and bourbon, donuts and sport, sport sport…
I know this is another Simpson’s reference, but this is so accurate and plus, Homer is amazing!
Then there is me. Doesn’t (Or now should I say, didn’t drink a lot), musicals, comedies, chick flicks, musicals, theatre, musicals, karaoke, lolly water, musicals, hunks, hunks, hunks, food… And so on…
For example:
Ok, I’m sorry, but a little less of saving the world and a little more shoes and THEN the balance is right
In all seriousness, here’s the point (The actual thing he wanted me to discuss). Kelly will often suggest something to watch and I will say “Ummmm no”… He will suggest a radio station and I will say “Ummmm no!”. He will tell me about something new and entertaining and I will say “Well that seems kind of stupid”.
It isn’t that I am disregarding his suggestions, not at all. I actually rather admire him. (Well duh!) It’s just that I like what I like. That whole mentality of “Don’t fix what’s not broken”. However, of recent I am starting to notice a trend of things that I otherwise thought were dull and of no entertainment value at all, have started becomming appealing to me. Following this, Kelly starts to say “See, I told you!” while kind of chuckling jovially. This is partly from happiness we like the same thing and partly because there was some form of defeat! (Hey, I don’t blame him!)
Here’s a basic list:
1: The Intrepid in NYC. A aircraft carrier. Boring! I dragged my heels the whole way. It actaully turned out to be one of my most favourite things we did. Brilliant and worth the trip.
2: The Blue Man Group in LV. Again, put it off and put it off and put it off. Then we went and I had a blast!!!
3: Drinking Bourbon. I have been a big pansy with drinking until I started hanging out with Kelly and Vee. Now I am becomming quite “immune” to it (Hahaha Vee, I used immune for you!) and it has become my favourite drink.
4: Pen and Teller on TV. Their show ‘Bullshit’ is AMAZING! and I hope we get to see them live some time.
5: Bones: HOW DID I NOT WATCH THIS BEFORE NOW?! Now Kelly and I download and watch this every week together!
6: Ultimate Fighter and American Football: Man it is gruesome, but epic to watch and I love laying in bed on a Sunday morning with Kel cheering on a bunch of beef cakes!
7: Alfred’s Kitchen. Never been before, the thought of some ridgy didge, shoddy looking place put this princess off but now one of my favourite things to do with Kel is head up there on a Friday night and grab our burgers, sit on the tail of my car and talk… The burgers are AMAZING!
8: Beetroot! Crazy I know! But Kelly got me hooked on beetroot. Especially in burgers! How good is beetroot?!
9: Walking. Any of my friends will tell you, the least exercise I get, the happier I am. Kelly got me walking about 18 months or so ago and now I make a point to park that little bit further away etc.
10: Easy listening radio. Honestly. I refused to admit I liked old people radio stations. But, I do. There it is. It makes me laugh. The music sometimes is hard to take, but the DJs are enjoyable to listen to.
These are just 10 of the things I gave him little credit for but have now changed my life!!!
So, is this conforming? OR is it expanding one’s horizons in a relationship?
Now I just need to work on him belting out a tune at a public Karaoke and prettying up his feet with a good pedicure! (I kid I kid I kid! I would never expect him to get up at karaoke!
)
